The Alabama Port Authority and APM Terminals Mobile will construct a new 1,300-foot container berth at the Port of Mobile. The $131 million Phase V project will increase berth capacity by 50 percent, allowing the terminal to handle three ultra-large container vessels simultaneously.
The project is jointly funded through federal appropriations to the Port Authority and private investment from APM Terminals. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and finish within 24 months. Once complete, annual berth capacity will reach 1.4 million TEU, supported by seven ship-to-shore cranes.
The new berth follows completion of the $366 million, 50-foot channel deepening project and complements more than $200 million in ongoing upgrades, including a 33-acre container yard expansion, rail improvements, and a new flyover bridge for on-dock rail access.
APM Terminals and the Port Authority also extended the terminal concession by 20 years, running through 2058, to ensure long-term alignment and investment stability.
