The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is gathering public feedback as it updates the Statewide Multimodal Freight Plan, which will guide freight transportation priorities and infrastructure investments across the state.
The updated plan will replace the 2023 Statewide Multimodal Freight Plan and establish strategies to improve the movement of goods across North Carolina’s multimodal freight network. It evaluates freight transportation by highway, rail, ports and waterways, air, and pipelines to support more efficient freight movement and strengthen the state’s economic competitiveness.
NCDOT is holding a series of public meetings to present the draft plan and collect stakeholder feedback before finalizing the document. The meetings include a virtual session on July 14, an in-person meeting in Greensboro on July 15, and a second in-person meeting in Wilmington on July 16.
NCDOT plans to release the draft plan for formal public comment this fall before submitting it to the North Carolina Board of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration for approval. The final plan is expected to be published in early 2027.
