NJ TRANSIT has released a Rapid Action Plan outlining systemwide initiatives to improve cleanliness, accessibility, public safety, and digital services across its transit network.
The plan includes upgrades to stations, vehicles, customer information systems, and digital tools. NJ TRANSIT also announced the launch of a redesigned mobile application featuring improved trip planning and expanded real-time service information.
A major component of the initiative includes development of NJT LiveView, a GPS-based platform designed to provide real-time train and light rail tracking across the network. The system will support customer alerts, arrival information, and station displays.
NJ TRANSIT also plans to expand Wi-Fi access across its bus fleet, modernize customer-facing digital displays, improve the MyBus and MyLightRail systems, and redesign its transit website. Accessibility upgrades will include improvements to elevators, escalators, boarding areas, signage, and station navigation systems for visually impaired riders.
The agency identified station cleanliness and maintenance as another priority area. Planned initiatives include expanded station care teams, targeted vehicle cleaning programs, and systemwide station condition improvements focused on high-ridership locations.
The plan also introduces new safety initiatives, including establishment of a Real Time Crime Center, expansion of surveillance camera systems, and targeted lighting improvements across stations and transit facilities.
NJ TRANSIT developed the plan following public feedback gathered through rider listening sessions, surveys, and stakeholder outreach. The agency stated that it will fund the initiatives through its existing operating budget.
