The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP) will expand electric ground support equipment charging infrastructure at LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B in New York City.
The project includes installation of 164 new charging ports across Terminal B’s concourses and baggage areas. The expansion will more than double the terminal’s existing charging capacity and support the airport’s transition from fossil fuel-powered ground equipment to electric alternatives.
LGP selected Conrac Solutions to design, construct, maintain, and provide interim financing for the charging infrastructure. The project will roll out in five phases and is scheduled for completion in 2027. Once construction finishes, Conrac Solutions will maintain all 250 charging ports at Terminal B, including the existing 86 units, under an eight-year operations and maintenance agreement.
The project supports the Port Authority’s target of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. According to the agency, fossil fuel-powered ground support equipment accounts for approximately 4 percent of emissions generated by operational partners across its facilities.
The Port Authority is also pursuing funding through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Voluntary Airport Low Emissions program, which supports airport clean technology and air quality initiatives.
LaGuardia Gateway Partners previously delivered the $5.1 billion redevelopment of Terminal B in 2022 as a public-private partnership.
