New Jersey Transit has ordered 375 Xcelsior 40-foot clean-diesel buses from New Flyer of America, completing the 550-bus base order under a contract awarded in the first quarter of 2024.
The order supports a multi-phase fleet replacement program that targets a fully modernized bus fleet by 2031. With this purchase, NJ Transit has fulfilled the full base order, while options for up to 750 additional buses remain available for future procurement.
The contract covers the manufacture and delivery of standard 40-foot clean-diesel transit buses to replace aging vehicles across NJ Transit’s statewide bus network. New Flyer, a subsidiary of NFI Group, will supply the vehicles.
The new buses will support daily transit service across New Jersey and improve fleet reliability, accessibility, and passenger comfort for riders and operators.
