NextNRG and Florida International University (FIU) have begun deploying a wireless electric vehicle charging network across the FIU campus. The project uses FIU-developed technologies licensed to NextNRG and will include static, dynamic, and bi-directional charging systems.
Plans call for up to 3 miles of roadway with in-motion charging and 24 static wireless charging sites at multiple campus locations. Vehicles will charge while moving or parked. A single management platform will coordinate operations, monitor system performance, and collect usage data.
Select sites will include bi-directional wireless charging to allow power flow between vehicles and FIU’s renewable energy systems. This feature will support energy storage, reduce grid strain, and provide data for smart energy management research.
FIU will become the first U.S. university to demonstrate wireless EV charging at this scale. The project aims to evaluate how wireless charging infrastructure integrates with campus operations and how it may support future transportation planning.
