New York State has awarded $25 million in capital grants to support infrastructure upgrades at 16 public-use airports through the AIR NY Aviation Capital Grant Program. The funding will support safety improvements, operational modernization, and environmental resilience measures across regions.
Key upgrades include snow removal equipment, hangar rehabilitation, geothermal systems, fuel infrastructure, and new maintenance facilities. Notable awards include:
- $2.5 million to Syracuse Hancock International Airport for a new snow control center
- $2.5 million to Buffalo Niagara International Airport for a deicing fluid treatment system
- $2.49 million to Greater Binghamton Airport for hangar rehabilitation
- $2.33 million to Griffiss International Airport for a sand/salt storage building
- $1.35 million to Ithaca Tompkins International Airport for a geothermal heating and cooling system
Other recipients include airports in Plattsburgh, Albany, Ogdensburg, Malone, Orange County, and the Finger Lakes region.
Projects were selected through a competitive process based on criteria including safety, sustainability, and local economic impact. The AIR NY program is administered by the New York State Department of Transportation and targets airports listed in the State Airport System Plan.
