The New York State Bridge Authority (NYSBA) has awarded a $34.4 million construction contract to Michels Construction, Inc. for rehabilitation work on the east approach of the Mid-Hudson Bridge. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025 and continue through summer 2027.

The project will include filling viaduct sections with lightweight concrete for improved structural support, installing new precast deck systems on five mini-spans, repainting the arch span over Metro-North Railroad tracks, and implementing lead abatement measures. The project area extends from the Route 9 on/off ramps to the former toll house on the Poughkeepsie side.

To minimize disruption, most 2025 work will occur beneath the bridge deck, with no changes to current traffic patterns. The two-lane reversible configuration will remain in place throughout the project. Any surface-level activity will occur during off-peak hours, with at least one lane open in each direction.

The rehabilitation follows paving work completed on the bridge’s west approach in 2023 and is part of NYSBA’s ongoing investment in the bridge ahead of its 100th anniversary in 2030. NYSBA operates five Hudson River crossings and funds projects entirely through toll revenue.
