Nashville International Airport (BNA) has announced plans to build a second terminal that will double the airport’s total capacity and expand its operations over the next decade. The new terminal will be located on a 300-acre site on the south side of the airport, adjacent to the existing facility.
The second terminal will include five new concourses, parking garages, and related infrastructure. The design allows for construction without interrupting current passenger or aircraft movement. Officials said the new facility will accommodate growing passenger volumes and support future international and domestic air service expansion.
The project continues the airport’s multi-phase “New Horizon” capital program, launched in 2022, which includes more than $3 billion in modernization and expansion work. Earlier phases included upgrades to Concourse D and the ongoing reconstruction of Concourse A, scheduled to reopen in 2028.
The new terminal is expected to complete design and early site work later this decade, with development extending through 2038. Timelines for construction and operations have not yet been released.
The Metro Nashville Airport Authority will oversee the project, which is part of BNA’s broader plan to accommodate more than 40 million annual passengers.
