Midland Breaks Ground on $38 Million Airport Expansion

The City of Midland has broken ground on a $38 million terminal expansion and modernization project at Midland International Air & Space Port. The upgrade marks the airport’s largest improvement in 30 years.

The expansion will add six new TSA lanes, a new escalator and elevator, and a redesigned checkpoint area to improve passenger flow. The project will also create new retail and amenity space.

Funding comes from federal grants and airport revenues, with no impact on local property taxes. Construction is expected to finish by spring 2027.

City officials said the phased approach will limit disruptions for travelers. The expansion is part of a broader $150 million improvement plan for Midland’s aviation facilities.
