The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board has approved the San Vicente–Fairfax alignment for the K Line Northern Extension, advancing a 9.7-mile light rail expansion across Los Angeles. The decision allows the project to proceed without delay following final route selection.

The extension will connect the existing K Line to West Hollywood and Hollywood, linking major corridors across the Los Angeles basin. The project will integrate with four rail lines and multiple high-ridership bus routes, improving network connectivity and reducing travel times across the region.

The scope includes approximately 9.7 miles of new light rail infrastructure with multiple underground stations extending from South Los Angeles through Mid-City and Fairfax to the Hollywood Bowl.

The City of West Hollywood plans to establish an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District (EIFD) to support the project, with an estimated $2.25 billion in financing. Additional funding sources and delivery timelines will be finalized in subsequent phases.

The project is in the planning and environmental review stage, with further design and funding coordination underway. Metro will continue technical studies and community engagement as it advances toward implementation.

The extension is expected to serve approximately 100,000 daily riders and connect more than 125,000 jobs within walking distance of stations. It will also support over 325,000 residents who rely on transit and improve access to major destinations across Los Angeles. The project is projected to generate over 10,000 construction jobs and drive regional economic activity.
