The City of Long Beach has begun construction on a terminal improvement project at Long Beach Airport. The project will expand and modernize key terminal areas to improve passenger flow and overall airport experience.

The project scope includes remodeling gate areas and restrooms, adding seating and charging stations, and developing new garden spaces. Crews will also upgrade lighting systems and improve wayfinding across the terminal.

The total project cost is $37 million. The Federal Aviation Administration is providing over $24 million through federal funding programs, with the remaining amount supported by local sources.

Construction is underway following a groundbreaking ceremony held on April 24, 2026. Officials expect to complete the upgrades ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The project will support nearly 200 construction jobs and improve capacity and passenger convenience. The upgrades will also help the airport accommodate increased travel demand during major international events.
