The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has completed construction work of the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines ahead of schedule and under budget.
The construction work was initially scheduled to last 54 days, but WMATA completed the project in just 38 days, reopening stations on December 23, 2024. The accelerated timeline saved approximately $2.5 million in costs, reflecting WMATA’s commitment to efficient and cost-effective operations.
The construction included replacing 14,000 feet of track, 19 switches, and several crossovers, and ensuring improved safety and smoother service for riders. Additional maintenance was performed on station platforms and on electrical systems during the closures. The completed work will increase safety and operational reliability across all three lines.
