The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Supervisors has approved the preliminary project agreement (PPA) for the Potrero Yard Modernization Project. The agreement enables the replacement of the existing 100-year-old facility with a state-of-the-art bus yard and bus maintenance and storage facility designed to accommodate a growing electric bus fleet.
The new Potrero Yard will be the first transit project in San Francisco that has been constructed using a public–private partnership (PPP) model. The upgraded facility will include modern maintenance bays, improved working conditions, and capacity for up to 213 battery-electric buses, supporting SFMTA’s goal of achieving a zero-emission fleet by 2040.
Construction is expected to commence in 2025. The new facility is projected to open by 2029.
