American Airlines and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport have opened the first phase of the Terminal C expansion project at DFW Airport. The milestone adds nine gates to the airport’s busiest terminal and marks the first completed component of a broader terminal modernization program.
The 115,000-square-foot pier expansion includes four new gates and five rebuilt gates. The facility also features new passenger seating areas, restrooms, concessions, and upgraded boarding infrastructure. All nine gates are equipped with electronic boarding technology designed to streamline passenger processing.
The project forms part of the $3 billion Terminal C reconstruction and expansion program, which began in 2024. The wider initiative will completely rebuild the 52-year-old terminal and add new check-in, security, baggage handling, retail, and passenger facilities. Once complete, Terminal C will house 32 gates across more than one million square feet of space.
The Terminal C project is one component of DFW Airport’s broader $12 billion DFW Forward capital program. Additional projects include a Terminal A expansion and construction of Terminal F, the airport’s first new terminal in more than 20 years. American Airlines expects approximately 930 daily departures from DFW during the peak summer travel season, reinforcing the airport’s role as the carrier’s largest hub.
