ABB Installation Products has opened a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to address the growing demand for grid reliability solutions amid rising power needs and aging infrastructure across the US.
The $40 million greenfield facility, spanning 90,000 square feet, will significantly boost production of ABB’s Elastimold cable accessories and Fisher Pierce circuit indicators—key components used in undergrounding, fire mitigation, and grid hardening projects. These solutions play a critical role in helping utilities enhance system reliability and safety for customers.
Located on ABB’s 40-acre campus, the new South Building doubles on-site production capacity and integrates advanced robotics, automated systems, and digital testing equipment. The facility is expected to create more than 150 new full-time jobs, bringing total employment on the campus to over 565, with further hiring underway.
In addition to boosting manufacturing output, ABB has invested $15 million in equipment upgrades and automation across both the new and existing buildings on site. The Albuquerque campus also features a newly established Pioneering Innovation Center, supporting job training, R&D, and utility-focused customer collaboration.
Over 80 per cent of the products manufactured in Albuquerque are destined for critical US utility and infrastructure projects. The facility also supports global customers in the energy and distribution sectors, underscoring ABB’s broader strategy to shorten supply chains, drive innovation, and localize production.
This latest expansion is part of more than $125 million in investments ABB Installation Products has made in US operations over the past five years. With utilities navigating intensifying weather events, electrification pressures, and system resilience challenges, ABB’s expansion will facilitate product availability and grid modernization in the country.
