Commuters who’ve waited 25 years for a promised light rail extension to Bergen County will have to wait longer for NJ Transit to start a study that a federal agency mandated be done in August 2023.

A critical study needed for extending the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail to Englewood won’t start until mid-2026 when a consultant to do it is expected to be hired, NJ Transit officials said.
