CF Industries has formed a joint venture with JERA, and Mitsui & Co. to build a $4 billion blue ammonia plant in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. The companies will construct facilities to produce and offtake ammonia at the site in Ascension Parish. The plant will produce 1.4 million metric tons of blue ammonia annually using autothermal reforming technology. The companies will also install a carbon dioxide dehydration and compression unit to prepare captured CO₂ for transport and underground storage.

The joint venture has divided ownership and funding responsibilities: CF Industries will hold 40 per cent, JERA 35 per cent, and Mitsui 25 per cent. The plant will integrate carbon capture and storage to significantly reduce emissions. The growing demand for low-carbon fuels has pushed companies to invest in projects like Blue Point, especially along the Gulf Coast, where many of the 14 recently announced low-carbon ammonia facilities are concentrated.
