Zayo has completed its $8.5 billion acquisition of Crown Castle’s fiber business, expanding its digital infrastructure network across U.S. metro markets. The transaction adds significant fiber capacity and enterprise connectivity in key regions.
The acquisition includes approximately 90,000 route miles of metro and regional fiber networks and 40,000 on-net enterprise locations. Following the transaction, Zayo’s total network spans about 224,000 route miles across North America. The total transaction value is $8.5 billion. The deal forms part of Crown Castle’s strategy to divest its fiber and small cell businesses and focus on tower operations.
Zayo will integrate the acquired assets into its existing network to expand capacity, improve route diversity, and increase access to enterprise and data center customers. The company will manage and operate the combined fiber infrastructure. The expanded network is expected to support increasing demand for high-capacity connectivity driven by cloud computing, enterprise applications, and data-intensive workloads.
In a related transaction, EQT has acquired Crown Castle’s small cell business, now operating as Arium Networks. Zayo has entered into a long-term agreement to provide fiber connectivity to that network.
