The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has awarded more than $7.5 million through its Harbor Assistance Program to support dredging and port infrastructure projects across five coastal communities.
The funding supports dredging, dock repairs, cargo-handling upgrades, and waterfront improvements at ports in Green Bay, Manitowoc, Marinette, Milwaukee, and Sturgeon Bay. The projects improve vessel access, protect port infrastructure, and expand cargo and shipbuilding capacity.
The state’s 2025–2027 biennial budget allocated $30 million for the Harbor Assistance Program and an additional $20 million for port development at the Port of Green Bay.
Funded projects include:
- $1.3 million for dredging at the mouth of the Lower Fox River in Green Bay,
- $1.3 million+ for dredging at Burger Boat Company’s Manitowoc shipyard
- $411,000 for dock wall and fender system repairs at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay.
- $882,000 for Marinette Fuel & Dock dredging
The projects benefit commercial shipping, shipbuilding, manufacturing logistics, and recreational boating by improving safety, capacity, and operational efficiency at Wisconsin’s ports.
