Provo Municipal Airport (PVU) has officially launched a three-year expansion project aimed at transforming the facility into a full-service regional hub by 2028. The expansion will increase terminal capacity from four to ten gates and support growing passenger demand across Utah County.

The phased expansion will increase the terminal from four to ten gates over the next three years. Initial construction on the apron has already begun, with terminal buildout expected to complete by late 2028. The project also includes plans to support international service and prepare for increased traffic during the 2034 Winter Olympics.

Utah County has committed $78 million toward the project, including a $19.5 million upfront payment from Tourism, Recreation, Convention (TRCC) and Transient Room Tax (TRT) funds, and a $3.9 million annual contribution over the next 15 years. Additional support is being provided by the City of Provo, the Federal Aviation Administration, the State of Utah, and the Mountainland Association of Governments.

The project also includes expanded baggage handling, upgraded ticketing areas, and future capabilities to support international travel. The expansion is expected to improve connectivity, reduce pressure on Salt Lake City International Airport, and generate $203 million in annual economic impact through jobs, tourism, and local business growth.
