The U.S. Department of Transportation has opened a $28.5 million funding opportunity through the Federal Transit Administration Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Planning.
The competitive grant program will support planning projects that integrate land use and transportation development around new fixed-guideway and core-capacity transit investments.
FTA will evaluate proposals based on several priorities, including transit safety improvements, innovation in project delivery, expanded family access to transit services, and integration of community amenities near transit corridors and stations.
Eligible projects may include planning efforts tied to public transportation access, childcare and recreation facilities near transit hubs, corridor safety improvements, and transit-oriented infrastructure development.
The program also encourages partnerships between local governments, transit agencies, private-sector organizations, and community groups. USDOT stated that proposals promoting private investment, public-private partnerships, and new transportation technologies will receive consideration during the evaluation process.
