The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has finalised a $550 million grant agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), for the construction of the I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Multimodal Project. The project is part of the Federal Highway Administration’s Bridge Investment Program (BIP).

The $3.7 billion project will span over 10 miles and includes a new six-lane, cable-stayed bridge over the Mobile River, replacing two aging tunnels. It also features new Bayway bridges raised above hurricane storm surge levels. The BIP grant will specifically support the Bayway portion of the project. This grant builds on the previous $175 million grant to South Carolina for I-95 bridge replacement.
