Work has been completed on the $28.4 million expansion and modernization of Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Central New York. The project includes an expanded North Concourse, a renovated Federal Inspection Station (FIS), new concessions, and improved passenger amenities.

The project received $20 million from New York’s $230 million Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition. Administered by the New York State Department of Transportation, the funding supports long-term infrastructure upgrades across upstate commercial airports.

At Syracuse, more than 4,000 square feet were added to the North Concourse, which serves roughly 40 percent of the airport’s passengers. Enhancements include expanded seating, new concession areas, improved passenger flow, and sustainability features such as natural lighting systems and energy-efficient building controls. The renovated FIS facility can now process up to 200 international passengers per hour, preserving the airport’s international designation.

The project also installed a new jet bridge, elevator tower, baggage carousel, boarding space, and accessibility upgrades such as hearing-impaired support and lighting systems.

Additionally, the New York State Department of Transportation completed a $10.5 million rehabilitation of the Airport Boulevard bridges over I-81 to improve access to the airport.

Syracuse Hancock handled over 3 million passengers in 2024, a 5.2 percent increase from the prior year. With recent and ongoing infrastructure investments, the airport continues to support regional growth and prepares for rising travel demand tied to major economic developments in the area.
