Sound Transit has approved plans to accelerate the opening of the Federal Way Link extension, with operations now projected to commence as early as winter 2025. While final testing and commissioning for this 1 Line extension, running from Angle Lake to Federal Way, are underway, the agency continues work to open the Crosslake Connection on 2 Line as expected in early 2026.
The Federal Way Link extension will add 8 miles to the regional light-rail system, through elevated tracks connecting the cities of SeaTac and Federal Way. The project includes three new stations at Kent Des Moines near Highline College, Star Lake, and downtown Federal Way. The project has almost completed system integration testing and is ready to move into its pre-revenue testing phase.
