Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) awarded a $323 million contract to a joint venture of Skanska and FlatironDragados for the first phase of roadway improvements under the Airfield and Terminal Modernization Program (ATMP) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The project will rebuild and reconfigure 4.4 miles of roadway to reduce congestion by up to 500 vehicles on Sepulveda Boulevard and create dedicated access routes to the Central Terminal Area. The work includes upgraded intersections, traffic signals, pedestrian bridges, and improved wayfinding systems.

The contract forms part of the $1.5 billion ATMP Roadway Improvements Project. To date, the Skanska–FlatironDragados joint venture has received $604 million in preconstruction and construction contracts for the program.

Construction of the first phase began in 2025 and is expected to conclude in the fourth quarter of 2026. Additional roadway work will pause during the 2028 Summer Olympics and resume afterward, with final completion targeted for mid-2030.

The project aims to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and support passenger mobility ahead of major global events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.
