The City of Rochelle has broken ground on a multimillion-dollar expansion of the Rochelle Intermodal Transload Center (RITC) to meet rising demand for freight services.

Located at the intersection of Interstates 88 and 39 and served by BNSF Railway, Union Pacific, and the city-operated Rochelle Railroad, the facility provides rail-to-truck transloading and logistics support for businesses without direct rail access. Since opening in 2020, the center has handled about 1,000 railcars annually and supported container shipments for multiple industries.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is providing $4.8 million through its competitive freight program to fund the expansion. The project will increase capacity for rail-to-truck transfers and strengthen regional supply chain connections.
