The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved a $3.4 billion budget for fiscal year 2026/27. The budget increases funding for port infrastructure, goods movement improvements, technology deployment, sustainability initiatives, and public-access projects.

The budget is 25% larger than the previous fiscal year’s plan. The increase is driven primarily by higher capital improvement spending, which will reach $302 million in FY 2026/27. The Port of Los Angeles expects operating revenues of $826 million and operating expenses of $452 million during the fiscal year.

Capital investments will focus on container terminal modernization and transportation improvements. Major projects include the $154 million Avalon Pedestrian Bridge and Promenade Gateway project, which entered construction in March 2026. Construction is also underway on a $74 million rail expansion project at Berths 302-305 and a $130 million reconfiguration of the SR 47/Vincent Thomas Bridge interchange.

The port expects to handle 9.3 million container units during FY 2026/27, lower than the last year. Port officials cited uncertainty in global trade conditions as a factor in the lower cargo outlook. Still, The Port of Los Angeles remains the nation’s busiest container port.
