The Port of Hueneme has received $4 million in Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding to complete its North Terminal Shoreside Power Project, allowing vessels to plug into shore power and shut down diesel engines while docked. The project aims to reduce emissions and improve air quality in surrounding communities.
The funding, approved by the Ventura County Transportation Commission, brings total grant support for the project to $15.9 million. It will support final equipment installation, weatherproofing, and safety systems to extend the power system’s operational life. Construction is set to begin this summer.
Once complete, the shoreside power system will advance the port’s 2030 zero-emissions target and support its broader sustainability efforts.
