The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority has approved construction of a new wharf at the Bayport Container Terminal as part of ongoing infrastructure investments to expand capacity and improve operational reliability.
The project will add approximately 1,300 linear feet of berth space at Bayport. The expanded wharf will accommodate larger container vessels and support installation of new high-capacity ship-to-shore cranes. Port Houston expects to complete the new Wharf 1 facility in 2028.
Port Houston will expand infrastructure at its Bayport and Barbours Cut container terminals to support rising cargo volumes and long-term trade growth. The port recently deployed four fully electric ship-to-shore cranes and placed ten rubber-tired gantry cranes into service.
The Port Commission also approved technology upgrades to strengthen system reliability, cybersecurity, and data management across port facilities. The investments aim to improve terminal operations and enhance operational resilience across the port’s container network.
