The City of Philadelphia has entered into an agreement with It’s Electric to deploy a citywide network of curbside electric vehicle chargers, with plans for up to 1,000 Level 2 charging units. The project will expand public charging access across all 18 planning districts.

The project scope includes installation and operation of curbside Level 2 chargers on public streets, with deployment prioritized in areas with limited existing charging infrastructure. The network will focus on neighborhoods with high rideshare activity and limited access to off-street parking.

The deployment model allows chargers to draw power from nearby buildings and utility poles, reducing the need for grid upgrades and accelerating installation timelines. It’s Electric will install and operate the charging network under an exclusive license agreement with the city. The Philadelphia City Council is advancing legislation to authorize the agreement, with a vote expected in June 2026.

The first phase of chargers is expected to become operational in early 2027, with phased deployment continuing across the city.

The project aims to expand EV charging access for residents without private parking, support transportation electrification, and improve infrastructure availability in underserved communities. More than 60 percent of households in Philadelphia lack access to off-street parking, making curbside charging a key component of EV adoption.
