The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has opened a public comment period for a proposed $75 million autonomous shuttle system at Pittsburgh International Airport. The comment period will run through April 14, 2026, after which officials will evaluate feedback before advancing the project.

The project proposes a driverless shuttle network connecting parking facilities and an on-site hotel to the airport’s new terminal. The system would replace existing manually operated shuttle buses and improve internal airport mobility.

The estimated project cost is $75 million. PennDOT is reviewing the project through its Office of Public-Private Partnerships, indicating a potential private-sector role in design, delivery, or operations. PennDOT will review public input before making any procurement or development decisions.

The system aims to reduce wait times, improve travel efficiency, and enhance accessibility for passengers moving between airport facilities. The project will support growing passenger volumes following the opening of the airport’s new terminal.
