The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) allocated $44 million for the Local Bridges Fund, which is financed through the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund (TTF). Each of New Jersey’s 21 counties will receive a base allocation of $1 million, with additional funding provided based on a formula that takes into account the total bridge deck area and the amount of deck area in poor condition. NJDOT has opened the grant application period for the Fiscal Year 2025 Local Bridges Fund program.

As part of NJDOT’s Statewide Capital Investment Strategy, these grants are designed to assist counties in addressing bridges that have significant structural deficiencies. The NJDOT Division of Local Aid and Economic Development is in charge of administering the grants, while the Division of Bridge Engineering and Infrastructure Management will evaluate the applications.

Local Aid grants support projects led by local agencies, facilitate regional planning and project development, and promote transportation alternatives such as Safe Routes to School. Through this program, NJDOT aims to improve transportation infrastructure, ensuring safer and more reliable travel for residents and visitors throughout the state.
