Metrolink has awarded a contract to Alstom to operate, service, and maintain the regional passenger rail system. The contract is valued at $15 million. Its duration is five years, extending from January 1, 2025 to June 30, 2030. It has a potential three-year extension, which would increase the contract value to $860 million.

The scope of work includes train operation and maintenance services for 559.23-miles railway lines and 67 stations; train crew and personnel training; customer service; maintenance of the rolling stock fleet of 258 passenger rail cars (57 cab cars and 201 coaches) and 60 locomotives; and facilities maintenance, with an option for materials management. Alstom will mobilise a team of 200 employees for the operation of Metrolink services beginning from July 1, 2025.

The project aims to improve passenger experience and transit safety to boost ridership.
