New York State has completed major airport revitalization projects in Rochester and Ogdensburg. The upgrades were supported by state funding through the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition.

Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport completed a $38 million project that modernized terminal spaces and upgraded airport-wide systems. Work included redesigned entry, ticketing, and baggage claim areas; new lighting and wayfinding; an expanded entrance canopy; three new elevators; a parking garage guidance system; security and HVAC improvements; a new traffic circle; and four replacement jet bridges. The project also added an expanded Veterans Area and a Frederick Douglass Cultural Area.

Ogdensburg International Airport finished a $25 million expansion and renovation project, supported by $18 million in state funding. Upgrades included expanded check-in, ticketing, and baggage areas; additional restrooms; upgraded screening and concessions; improved security systems; new sanitation and water stations; an extended curbside canopy; upgraded Wi-Fi; and exterior renovations. The project also added an outdoor courtyard and electrical charging stations.

The Upstate Airport Competition has now completed projects at six airports, with additional projects scheduled for completion in 2026.
