The government of New York has announced an investment of $150 million to develop a new rail connection between Long Island MacArthur Airport, located at Ronkonkoma, Long Island, and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). The project is aimed at improving transportation accessibility and enhancing regional connectivity by providing a direct and efficient link between the airport and the broader rail network.

The funding will be used to plan, design, and construct the rail connection, which will enable passengers to travel seamlessly between the airport and LIRR’s Ronkonkoma Branch. Currently, travelers using the airport must rely on shuttle buses, taxis, or personal vehicles to reach the nearest rail station. The new rail link is expected to streamline this process, offering a more convenient and time-efficient alternative for passengers.

As part of the planning phase, state and local transportation agencies will conduct feasibility studies and engage with stakeholders to determine the most efficient route, station locations, and operational requirements.
