New Jersey has awarded $44 million in Local Bridges Fund grants to support bridge repair, replacement, and reconstruction projects across all 21 counties. The funding will support 33 bridge projects aimed at addressing aging infrastructure and improving the condition of locally owned bridges. The grants are administered through the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Local Aid program and funded through the state’s Transportation Trust Fund.
Several projects in central New Jersey received funding through the latest round. Somerset County secured more than $2.4 million for two bridge replacement projects on Readington Road in Branchburg, while Woodbridge Township in Middlesex County received approximately $1.89 million to replace the New Dover Road bridge over the South Branch Rahway River.
The Local Bridges Fund allocates a base level of funding to each county, with additional awards determined by the number and condition of local bridges. State officials said the program prioritizes structures with the greatest repair and replacement needs.
