Multiple infrastructure initiatives in mid-Michigan could receive federal support through new funding requests submitted under the Community Project Funding Initiative for the Fiscal Year 2026 federal budget. The proposals aim to improve transportation networks, public safety facilities, and economic development opportunities across the region.
The requests include:
-
Bay County Road Commission: Resurfacing State Park Drive and implementing safety upgrades, including improved signage, marked lanes, defined commercial access points, and upgraded sidewalks. The project seeks to enhance driver and pedestrian safety, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and support local economic activity.
-
Bridgeport Charter Township: Repairing and expanding the township’s fire station to meet modern emergency response demands. Planned improvements include upgraded facilities to protect firefighters from occupational hazards and support faster response times.
-
Genesee County Land Bank Authority: Demolishing blighted and hazardous structures to improve neighborhood safety, reduce crime, and enable housing and commercial development.
-
Genesee County Road Commission: Replacing the deteriorating Frances Road Bridge to improve safety, restore a key transportation corridor, and facilitate agricultural transport.
-
Saginaw Valley State University: Developing over 200 acres of land adjacent to the campus to attract business investment, create jobs, and enhance the area’s visual appeal.
If approved, these projects would address aging infrastructure, improve public safety, and stimulate regional economic growth. The total funding requested has not been disclosed.
