The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) has announced $56 million in available funding through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program for public infrastructure, housing rehabilitation, community revitalization, and emergency assistance projects across the state.

The funding package includes $25 million for Public Infrastructure grants, $15 million for Housing Rehabilitation grants, $13 million for Community Revitalization grants, and $3 million for Emergency Assistance projects.

The Public Infrastructure program will support projects including storm sewer construction, waterline replacement, water storage tank construction, flood mitigation, sewage management, and water system improvements.

Housing Rehabilitation grants will fund upgrades for low-to-moderate income homeowners. Eligible work includes structural repairs, lead remediation, plumbing and electrical upgrades, accessibility improvements, flooring replacement, and appliance installations.

Illinois introduced the Community Revitalization grant category as a new addition to the CDBG program. The funding will support redevelopment of vacant buildings, historic preservation projects, streetscape improvements, sidewalk repairs, and rehabilitation of deteriorating commercial properties.

Eligible applicants can request between $300,000 and $1.5 million under the Public Infrastructure program, $300,000 to $800,000 under the Housing Rehabilitation program, and $250,000 to $2 million through the Community Revitalization program.
