Washington United Terminals (WUT) has secured four new cranes at the Port of Tacoma as part of a terminal modernization project that will replace aging equipment and increase capacity for larger container vessels. The project includes the replacement of two quay cranes and the addition of two yard cranes to improve cargo-handling operations and terminal reliability.
HD Hyundai Samho will deliver the project under a turnkey contract covering the design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and commissioning of the equipment. The company expects to complete delivery by 2028. WUT, a subsidiary of HMM, currently operates eight quay cranes at the terminal. The new equipment will support larger container ships and strengthen cargo-handling operations at one of the U.S. West Coast’s key container gateways.
