Amtrak has initiated two significant station renovation projects in western Pennsylvania aimed at enhancing accessibility, safety, and passenger service along its Pennsylvanian route.
Latrobe Station is slated for extensive upgrades, with construction expected to commence later in 2025. The planned improvements include the installation of a new concrete platform and the encasement of canopy bases in reinforced concrete for increased durability. Additionally, crews will construct an accessible route from the public right-of-way to the shelter, parking area, and platform, which will include ADA-compliant parking spaces, a new ramp, and a fully renovated entrance. Further improvements will involve concrete stairs, new foundations, and updated stair canopy bases. The station’s parking lot will be resurfaced and re-striped, and new signage will reflect the updated layout.
Construction at Greensburg Station is scheduled to begin in 2026. Project teams are currently finalizing designs in collaboration with Norfolk Southern Railway, federal and state agencies, and the building’s owner. The redesigned station will feature two new concrete platforms, replacing the existing one, along with updated canopy structures incorporating modern drainage systems to improve both appearance and functionality. Other planned enhancements include the addition of two accessible restrooms, new stairs connecting the platform to the tunnel, and automatic ADA-compliant entrance doors with upgraded flooring.
