Albany International Airport has opened 6,000 square feet of a new Departure Hall as part of a broader $100 million terminal redevelopment project. The partial opening marks a construction milestone in the ongoing effort to modernize passenger facilities and improve airport operations.
The project scope includes construction of a 14,000-square-foot Departure Hall that will house a relocated TSA checkpoint, expanded queuing areas, new restrooms, and improved passenger circulation. The development also includes new escalators, a direct connection to the North Parking Garage, and additional passenger amenities.
The total project cost is $100 million. Funding includes $60 million from the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition, with the remaining funding supported by state and airport sources.
Albany International Airport Authority is overseeing the project, with contractors managing phased construction within the active terminal.
Construction remains ongoing, with the newly opened section allowing continued work on adjacent areas. The full Departure Hall, including a new TSA checkpoint with an additional screening lane and expanded amenities, is expected to be completed by December 2026.
The upgrades aim to reduce passenger wait times, improve terminal flow, and enhance overall traveler experience. The project also supports increased capacity and operational efficiency at the airport.
