Port Tampa Bay has secured a $24 million federal grant to expand bulk cargo capacity at its Port Redwing terminal in Gibsonton. The funding supports a berth expansion project aimed at increasing vessel capacity and improving cargo handling efficiency.
The project includes extending Berth 300 by approximately 800 feet, creating a total berth length of about 1,300 feet. Once integrated with adjacent berths, the site will offer approximately 2,800 contiguous linear feet of dock space. The expansion will allow the terminal to accommodate multiple vessels simultaneously, including up to four handysize bulk carriers or three larger dry bulk vessels.
The total project cost is approximately $40 million. Funding includes $24 million from the Maritime Administration through the Port Infrastructure Development Program, along with a $16 million local contribution from Port Tampa Bay.
The expansion supports increased handling of dry bulk commodities such as aggregates, cement, gypsum, and grain. Existing tenants have committed to handling more than 5.7 million tons of cargo annually, approaching current capacity limits.
