Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport has begun a $27.1 million rehabilitation project on Runway 2/20 to improve airfield safety and long-term operational reliability.
The project will reconstruct sections of the runway pavement along the entire 7,001-foot corridor. Work includes full-depth pavement reconstruction of two center panels, replacement of in-pavement centerline lighting and electrical systems, resealing of pavement joints, and installation of new runway markings.
The project is funded primarily through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program and is overseen by the New Orleans Aviation Board, which manages the airport.
Construction began in March 2026 and will require the closure of Runway 2/20 for approximately eight months. During the closure, aircraft arrivals and departures will operate from the airport’s east-west runway.
Airport officials expect the rehabilitation project to conclude in December 2026.
