Hawaii Department of Transportation has implemented an AI-based roadway asset analytics program to identify and prioritize road maintenance needs across the state. The agency is using Bentley Systems’ Blyncsy platform as part of its Eyes on the Road program.

The program uses high-resolution dash camera imagery collected from vehicles operating on state roads. Participating residents install cameras that record roadway conditions during daily travel. The system uploads imagery through cellular connections and analyzes it using machine learning algorithms.

The analytics platform identifies roadway hazards, including guardrail damage, vegetation encroachment, debris, and shoulder conditions. The system flags issues for review and supports maintenance prioritization based on observed asset conditions.

Bentley Systems provides the Blyncsy technology as part of its asset analytics portfolio. The platform processes imagery anonymously and delivers near-real-time reporting to transportation officials.

The program supports roadway safety monitoring and maintenance planning across Hawaii’s state highway network.
