Pensacola Seeks $86 Million Grant for Port Shipbuilding Facility

The City of Pensacola has submitted an $86 million grant request to Triumph Gulf Coast to support a proposed shipbuilding facility at the Port of Pensacola.cThe funding would cover a portion of construction and equipment costs for a new 400,000-square-foot facility. The full project cost is estimated at $250 million.

The city is recruiting a U.S. ship designer and builder capable of producing Navy ship modules and vessels up to 400 feet long. The company name has not been released.

The proposed facility would employ 1,437 production workers earning an average of $68,000 and 563 engineering and support staff earning an average of $112,000. Total employment could reach 2,000 jobs within five years.

Triumph Gulf Coast will review the pre-application. The board provides economic development funding across Northwest Florida using BP oil spill settlement funds.
