The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has allocated $1 billion to improve safety and modernize California’s transportation network, including roads, bicycle lanes, sidewalks, and transit facilities.

The funding includes nearly $311 million from the 2021 federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and $301 million from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The CTC dedicated over $138 million to upgrade safety infrastructure and repair storm-vulnerable drainage systems across the state.

Major approved projects include:

  • $40.9 million for State Route 99 in Tehama County to upgrade drainage and transportation safety systems near Los Molinos Creek Bridge.
  • $27.8 million to deploy real-time traveller information systems along I-710 in Los Angeles County.
  • $19.8 million to enhance drainage and safety technology across 80+ miles of U.S. Highway 101 in Humboldt County.

The funding also supports projects in all 12 Caltrans districts, covering rural and urban counties from the Bay Area to the Central Valley and from coastal regions to inland communities.
