California has reached 178,549 installed public and shared private electric vehicle (EV) chargers, a 48 per cent increase over the state’s estimated 120,000 gasoline nozzles. he figures, announced by the California Energy Commission (CEC), reflect an increase of over 26,000 chargers since August 2024 and nearly double the public network size recorded in 2022.

The growth is supported by California’s $1.4 billion EV infrastructure investment plan, which funds deployment through programs such as the California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP) and the Fast Charge California initiative. The latter includes $55 million to install public fast-charging stations at business and community sites.

California continues to lead national deployment, accounting for 30 per cent of new zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) sales in the U.S.
