The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) and the City of Millbrae have reached a settlement agreement resolving the city’s legal challenge concerning future high-speed rail (HSR) development in the area. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between the two entities as planning progresses for the integration of a high-speed rail station into the existing intermodal hub in Millbrae. CHSRA is currently working on extending the under-construction system from 119 to 171 miles, connecting Merced and Bakersfield through electrified rail.
As part of the agreement, the City of Millbrae will take the lead on land use and planning efforts for the west side of the Millbrae BART station. This includes overseeing transit-oriented development (TOD) following the revised Millbrae Station Area Specific Plan. CHSRA will be responsible for designing the proposed high-speed rail facilities and for ensuring seamless integration into the existing intermodal station that already serves BART, Caltrain, and SamTrans.
