The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor United Companies have initiated the Colorado Highway 92 safety improvement project on Rogers Mesa near Hotchkiss. The project covers Mile Points 15 to 17 and aims to enhance safety and mobility along the CO 92 corridor.
Crews began work during the week of January 6. Construction will continue through early February, focusing on drainage and utility infrastructure upgrades. The project will progress in stages, starting with irrigation improvements, followed by the installation of waterlines, road widening with embankments, paving, fencing, and concluding with seeding and landscaping.
Upgraded shoulders and ditches on both sides of the highway will improve drainage, while an interim access control plan will reduce potential conflict points along the corridor. A key milestone is set for mid-April, when the irrigation improvements are expected to be completed. In the final phase, crews will mill the roadway surface, apply asphalt, and add permanent striping. CDOT anticipates completing the project by November 2025.
